Super easy strainer to make fresh kefir or regular yogurt cheese. If you've been trying to hang your yogurt in cheesecloth to make your cheese, you'll love this hassle free strainer.Kefir cheese is known as quark or qvark and is a fresh East European cheese that has a soft texture similar to ricotta but is much lower in fat. Add this un-aged cheese to salads and make excellent dips and sweet desserts.
- Make kefir as instructed
- Leave kefir at room temperature for 48 hours, or until the curds have separated from the whey
- Strain over a bowl to completely separate the curds
- Cover with a tea towel and leave at room temperature for 12 hours
- Refrigerate for a few hours and remove the cheese from the strainer
- Keeps fresh up to 8 days
- Sweeten the whey for a tasty, healthy drink
- Refrigerate starter culture packets until ready to use
Quark cannot be made if the kefir has been refrigerator as the fermentation process has stopped.
