Don't Eat it, Wear it!
It may not be good enough to eat but don't let this protein and vitamin rich live food go to waste. Yogurt makes the perfect skin care home treatment and it can save you big bucks on expensive commercial products.
Yogurt Facial Masks
Yogurt is the best dairy source of the mineral zinc. On the skin, zinc acts as a mild astringent giving you a mini-face lift as it tightens, shrinks and constricts facial tissues. Zinc is also a beneficial treatment for acne.
The popular (and expensive) anti-aging skin care ingredient, alpha hydroxy acid, is derived from fruit as well as the lactic acid found in milk. Lactic acids are able to penetrate the skin and slough off dead skin cells.
- A yogurt facial is as easy as just spreading it on your face and relaxing for 15- 20 minutes while it does its work. Be sure to drain the whey a bit to avoid dripping.
- But if you want a full fledged yogurt spa treatment, try one of these facial recipes. Just mix the ingredients together and leave on from 5-20 minutes.
- Those with irritated skin or outbreaks may experience a bit of tingling. Just leave on a comfortable amount of time, rinse off with warm water and apply a moisturizer. You can also apply these masks to your hands and feet.

- 1 teaspoon honey
Green tea is high in free radical fighting antioxidants and can really improve the texture and tone of tired, irritated skin. Use this mask if you suffer from psoriasis, eczema, rosacea or other inflammatory conditions.
Studies done on topical honey use show that its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties can also help decrease skin dermatitis and the appearance of scars.
Anti-Aging Yogurt Power Protein Pack
- 1/2 cup plain homemade yogurt
- 4 tablesppons protein powder

Your skin is composed of collagen, a fibrous type of protein that holds your facial structure tight and lets it sag as you age. Skin care products are fortified with protein to topically replenish lost collagen and restore the tone and elasticity of your skin. Eggs have been used by many cultures for their face lifting effect. Use this mask to tighten sagging and improve the texture of aging skin.
Yogurt Fruity Peel
- 1/2 cup plain homemade yogurt
- 1 tablespoon lemon pulp
- 1 tablespoon lime pulp
Women spend hundreds of dollars on professional facial peels and on skin care products with harsh chemicals that do what this mask can do for under a dollar. The lactic acids in the yogurt and fruit will gently but effectively remove dry, dead skin cells while feeding your skin a healthy dose of smoothness. Unless your skin is especially sensitive, use this mask 1-2 times per month for 5-15 minutes.
Yogurt Super Hydrator
- 1/2 cup plain homemade yogurt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon cucumber pulp
Legend says that Cleopatra used olive oil to heal her skin from the dry desert heat. Olives are high in antioxidant Vitamin E and is a super block for keeping moisture on the skin surface. Be sure to save a little to use as a moisturizer after you rinse off the mask. Cucumber's high water content and anti-inflammatory properties make it an excellent re-hydrator and soother.
